Palazzo Sistema

On one hand, the building integrates strongly into the surrounding urban fabric, echoing the scale of the twentieth-century city and the typical Milanese scheme of the courtyard. On the other, the three overlapping volumes create a recognisable tower in the skyline, which dialogues with the contemporary city.
The building on the ground is open and organically integrated into its surroundings. Along Via Pola the courtyard stands out, creating a strong and iconic end, a connector with the city. Here are concentrated the most public spaces of relationship between the building and the city in which the main entrance is conceived as an ‘urban room’, a space of filter and communication between the citizen and the institution, a square with its institutional function and a place of different and interconnected landscapes at citizens’ service. The tower is instead structured in three overlapping volumes, creating green terraces sloping towards the north of the area. The floors between the volumes, in the terraces, are conceived as a continuation of the ground floor, quality spaces integrated into the building in height.
By creating spaces for relations with the public and identifying semi-public paths within it, the proposal places the user and his or her needs at the centre, both from the point of view of creating a sustainable and quality workplace and participation in institutional life and closeness to the community.
